Train Sim World 5 now simulates one of the longest journeys in the game with over 100 miles of new track added

DATE POSTED:November 26, 2024
Train Sim 5

Train Sim World 5 from Dovetail Games may be a recent addition to the gaming scene but it already has more DLC and routes than you could have imagined. And while its aerial sim competitor Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has struggled to take off, fans of rolling stock seem pretty happy with Train Sim World 5’s launch.

Now as the expansions keep pulling into the station we have the longest UK route due at Platform 1 (I’ll stop now) with the West Coast Main Line from Preston to Carlisle – over 100 miles of track through the Lake District (hopefully not the Lake District depicted in Atomfall) and also includes the Morecambe Coastal Branch Line.

There is a slight twist for railroad history fans as the line is based as it was way back in 1986. Landmark buildings at Lancaster, Carlisle, and Preston Station are fully recreated as per their condition in the late 1980s, as is the M6 Motorway and the retro traffic seen driving along it such as at Tebay.

As well as the route, developer Just Trains brings a new (old) locomotive to the game, the Class 87, with other previously featured locos also included in the Class 47, 08, and 101 DMU.

So if you long for the time when British Rail was blue and it truly was “The Age of the Train” (you need to be both British and of a certain age to remember that advertising slogan,) this latest edition to West Coast Main Line is worth a check out

Train Sim World 5: West Coast Main Line: Preston – Carlisle route Add-on is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam for £32.99/€39.99/$44.99

Train Sim World 5 meanwhile is available in several editions: A Deluxe Edition (£59.99/€74.99/$74.99), Special Edition (£104.99/€119.99/$119.99), and Standard Edition (£39.99/€44.99/$49.99) are also available.
