As March Madness is soon set to begin, the online sportsbook DraftKings has shared its support for Problem Gambling Awareness Month.

In the United States, March is dedicated to the nationwide grassroots campaign which aims to increase public awareness of problem gambling.

To mark the month, DraftKings is launching a national ‘Responsible Gaming’ advertising campaign while also running a series of initiatives.

“At DraftKings, Responsible Gaming is fundamental to our mission, and we are committed to making tools, resources, and education available to all our players to help them play responsibly,” said Lori Kalani, Chief Responsible Gaming Officer at DraftKings.

“Through initiatives like My Stat Sheet, which provides players with their personalized play data, and our new national awareness campaign, we’re reinforcing the importance of responsible play.

“Additionally, with the renewal of our State Council Funding Program, we’re continuing to support organizations that expand access to resources and education for players, their families, and communities.”

According to the National Council on Problem Gambling, 2.5 million U.S. adults are estimated to meet the criteria for a severe gambling problem in a given year.

The new advertising campaign has been backed by a commitment of over $10 million to amplify the message and aim to reach a broader audience. It will include branding support from the NFL and NBA too, with the ad focusing on the importance of setting limits and making informed choices.

The advertisement will officially air ahead of the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, with it hoping to reach millions of viewers. The NCAA tournament is set to kick off this week, with the First Four taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Within the press release announcing the news, DraftKings also shares how it has renewed its State Council Funding Program which was originally launched in 2022.

Going forward, the company states it will distribute over $500,000 to 34 U.S. state problem gambling councils, including those in states where it does not operate.
