WhatsApp is introducing AI-generated suggested replies within conversations and new tools for photo editing and storage management.
The update integrates Meta AI directly into the messaging experience, allowing users to leverage artificial intelligence for various functions previously requiring external applications.
WhatsApp, owned by Meta, updated its “Writing Help” feature. This allows users to draft messages with AI assistance, building on its previous capabilities for rephrasing, proofreading, and tone adjustment, which launched in August.
Meta stated that chats remain private even when the AI-powered “Writing Help” feature is utilized. Users can access the feature by tapping the chat bar, selecting the stickers icon, and then the pencil with sparkledust icon.
The platform also introduced a new method for freeing up storage by allowing users to identify and delete large files directly within chats. This includes the option to clear specific media files while retaining chat history.
Users can now employ Meta AI to enhance photos within chats, facilitating tasks such as removing distracting elements, altering backgrounds, or applying stylistic changes.
Additional updates include the ability to transfer chat history between iOS and Android devices, as well as within the same operating system. iOS users can now also manage two WhatsApp accounts simultaneously, a feature previously available on Android.
WhatsApp is also enhancing its sticker function by suggesting specific stickers to users as they type emojis. The company said these new features are rolling out and will be accessible to all users soon.
