AI image of AirConsole gaming system in a Volkwagen EV / Volkswagen confirms collaboration with AirConsole to deliver in-car gaming system.

Volkswagen has partnered with AirConsole to deliver a unique in-car gaming experience to several of the German brand’s EVs.

Starting with the ID.7 Tourer and others in the ID range, the gaming platform for drivers and passengers will provide a fun and engaging way to pass some time and be entertained while the vehicles are stationary, or charging.

AirConsole will only start gameplay when the EV is parked.

The gaming tech will also be available to the new Passat, Tiguan, Golf, and Golf Estate. As detailed in the press release, AirConsole is considered to be the world’s first gaming platform specifically designed for cars, with an extensive portfolio of games to satisfy casual players of any age, or interest.

This development is a significant enhancement for VW’s in-car entertainment setup, with the infotainment deck effectively acting as a games console, and smartphones utilized as controllers.

Once the AirConsole app is opened, players can get their gaming session underway by using a smartphone to scan a QR code on the EV’s main display. Full car? No problem. The platform allows seamless multiplayer gaming, so rear passengers can get involved in the action.

AirConsole previously launched a collaboration with BMW

VW’s European market is set to be the first to benefit from the addition of AirConsole. It will be introduced by mid-September and around the turn of the year into 2025, the tech will be extended into more European countries, with several more games to be added to the platform.

In May last year, BMW launched its 5 Series confirming the inclusion of AirConsole, with available game titles such as Go Kart Go, Golazo, Music Guess, and Overcooked.

The collaboration with the Swiss startup and the introduction of in-car gaming saw the launch of a BMW i5 model with a “unique gaming wrap”.
