Ubisoft has advised those with early access to the highly anticipated Star Wars Outlaw game to start a new save on the PlayStation 5, leaving many frustrated.

The large 1.000.002 update for the PS5 was sent out to fix bugs and deploy a 40fps mode on Tuesday (Aug, 27). A few hours later, PS5 players began receiving an accompanying email from the game’s publisher, Ubisoft. Xbox and PC gamers are not thought to be affected.

Star Wars Outlaws isn’t officially out until August 30 but it is currently available for those who pre-ordered it. The Gold Edition costs $100, leaving many who paid for early access to wonder what actually are the benefits.

What did Ubisoft write to Star Wars Outlaws players?

Ubisoft told the affected players to make sure they were running version 1.000.002 by checking their settings.

“To best experience the Outer Rim, we rolled out a maintenance to make sure everyone is playing the latest version of the game. As one of the players affected who had access to an older version of the game, we are aware you might be encountering some issues after this recent patch. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” the email reads.

It continues: “Once you’ve confirmed you have the latest version, please start a new save to fully enjoy Star Wars Outlaws as our team intended. If you continue on a prior save you will unfortunately face issues and progression blockers.”

Many gamers are not happy after forking out, especially for the early access version. Some were even playing for multiple hours before they received Ubisoft’s email and will now be forced to lose their progress. Otherwise, they will not be able to continue their save.

“I just got this email this morning, wish I knew that [before] I played 5 hours last night,” said one Reddit user. “Honestly this game is testing my patience.”

“What was the point in paying for early access?” asked another player on X.
