Runway image generation of a person's face

Runway has just launched a new AI image generation tool called Frames, offering high-quality photorealism and advanced levels of control.

Powered by Gen-3 Alpha and Runway’s in-house API, Frames offers photorealistic quality and stylistic control, with separate ‘Worlds’ to afford consistent aesthetics when switching, for example, between brands.

You can assign different effects and aesthetics to different Worlds, such as 1970s album art, Japanese zines, or dynamic landscapes. That ensures all content within the World stays within the same style. The numbers assigned to the Worlds suggest that there could be thousands of different style options, as well as the future possibility for users to create their own Worlds.

“With Frames, you can begin to architect worlds that represent very specific points of view and aesthetic characteristics,” reads the official announcement. “The model allows you to design with precision the look, feel and atmosphere of the world you want to create.”

Runway pushing the boundaries of generative AI

Runway has been busy recently, having released facial expression motion capture to improve its video generation last month and another video expansion tool just a few days ago that allowed users to generate new content from an existing video.

The company has made a name for itself in bringing out tools that rival major image startups like Midjourney and Leonardo. The powerful Gen-3 Alpha can clearly achieve a lot and Runway is bringing out fresh features and style options all the time when it comes to video generation.

If it does the same for its image generation arm, it could quickly become a one-stop shop for creative generative AI.
