Reddit considers biometric checks to prove users are human

Reddit is exploring new methods to verify user identity to combat bot activity on its platform, according to CEO Steve Huffman.

The potential changes could introduce additional steps to account creation and posting, impacting user anonymity which has traditionally been a core feature of the platform.

Huffman mentioned biometric authentication methods such as Face ID or Touch ID as lightweight options during an interview on the TBPN podcast. He stated these methods verify “a human presence.”

Other options under consideration include decentralized third-party services that do not require personal identification. More rigorous methods, such as ID-checking services, are also being discussed.
