Meta will discontinue access to the virtual reality version of Horizon Worlds on June 15, 2026, shifting focus to its mobile platform. The company announced plans in February to separate Horizon Worlds from the Quest VR ecosystem and now has detailed timelines for this transition in a community forum post.
Additionally, Meta will discontinue the Hyperscape Capture feature in Horizon Worlds. This beta tool allowed users to capture and share 3D scans of real-world locations. While users will still be able to capture and view these Hyperscapes, functionalities for sharing and co-experiencing them will no longer be supported.
Meta’s decision to discontinue the VR version follows indications of “positive momentum” in the mobile application, which the company aims to prioritize over VR developments. This strategic shift may seem contrary to Meta’s positioning as a leader in the metaverse space but aligns with its increased resource allocation towards artificial intelligence and smart glasses.
