Is Mario & Luigi: Brothership a co-op game?

DATE POSTED:November 8, 2024

Mario & Luigi: Brothership brings back the classic RPG goodness that fans of the franchise really enjoy.

Since both the famous plumbers feature in the experience, many are wondering if you can pick up and play with a friend, allowing you to share the joy of taking down Bowser once again.

Here, we’ll take you through if Mario & Luigi: Brothership is co-op so you know if you can get some couch multiplayer going or if you’re going through it solo.

Can you play Mario & Luigi: Brothership co-op?

If you’re wondering whether Mario & Luigi: Brothership lets you team up with a friend, the answer is no. Despite starring both iconic plumbers, Brothership is sadly a single-player only experience.

This follows the tradition of past Mario & Luigi games, such as Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, which also featured Mario and Luigi as a duo but were designed exclusively for solo play.

Why Brothership is a single-player experience

Although co-op gameplay might seem like a natural fit for a game starring both Mario and Luigi, Mario & Luigi titles have traditionally focused on providing a rich, single-player adventure where you seamlessly control both characters.

By keeping Brothership single-player, the game allows for a more cohesive experience, where you can make the most of intricate mechanics like action commands, Bros. Attacks, and Luigi Logic without needing to coordinate with another player.

So, while Mario & Luigi: Brothership may not be a co-op game, it offers an in-depth, solo adventure that builds on the Mario & Luigi legacy, with new features, puzzles, and a unique world for you to explore.

While the no co-op aspect may be a little disappointing, especially if you’re entering the franchise with Brothership, it’s still definitely worth a pick up in our opinion.

Mario games of this ilk don’t come around too often and if you’re into your turn-based combat, this one has that and much more.
