LiveKit, a developer of infrastructure software for real-time AI voice and video applications, raised $100 million in funding at a $1 billion valuation.
Index Ventures led the round, which occurred 10 months after LiveKit’s previous fundraise. Altimeter Capital Management, Hanabi Capital, and Redpoint Ventures, all existing investors, also participated.
LiveKit powers OpenAI’s ChatGPT voice mode. Its customer base includes xAI, Salesforce, Tesla, 911 emergency service operators, and mental health providers.
Russ d’Sa and David Zhao founded the company in 2021 as an open-source software project for building applications transmitting real-time audio and video. While LiveKit initially began as a free developer tool, the company shifted to providing managed cloud services to enterprises in response to demand from larger companies amid the rise of voice AI.
