Gitcoin Passport — HAS IT BEGUN?!

Gitcoin Passport — HAS IT BEGUN?!

Seen the news? zkSync has added a couple of roles to the Guild that can only be obtained by using a Gitcoin Passport and having a certain Score.

  • Verified Level 1: Earned by having a Gitcoin Passport with 15+ points; verified email; 10+ transactions in zkSync Era; Discord account older than 3 months.
  • Verified Level 2: Earned by having a Gitcoin Passport with 20+ points; Role of Verified Level 1

Is it worth mentioning that I’ve already written several times about how Gitcoin Passports can not only become a widely used tool but also find their application in zkSync itself.

  • Mention was made here
  • Another mention here

According to the team, these roles are necessary to participate in the future zkSuccess program, official details of which are not yet available.

Some speculate it will be a parody of the ambassador program, where you’ll have to work hard on the project, and all this will be accompanied by three levels: novice, intern, and professional. Got this info from a random guy on Twitter, so I insist on waiting for the official announcement.

Back to the pressing issues..

In previous posts, I said that the integration of Gitcoin Passports should not be underestimated. Although the Gitcoin Passport itself is a poor tool that does not allow distinguishing a Sybil from a real user, it is leading — THAT’S THE MAIN THING!

And yes, to avoid misleading you, I’ll immediately note that there will NOT be a TOTAL shaving based on Gitcoin Passport.

We are in Web3, where the success of a project is determined by TVL and other on-chain indicators. And those users who are significant in these on-chain indicators have no idea about the existence of Gitcoin Passports. Simply put, types that bring millions of TVL to the project don’t care about your passports. And imagine.. Would it be profitable for zkSync to remove types based on Gitcoin Passports, which essentially form the success of this zkSync? I think the answer is obvious!

Talking about Gitcoin Passport and other similar tools, I note that today’s Sybils should not be perceived as people with a bunch of accounts; it’s not like that anymore. Sybils are a market with a large volume of liquidity. And don’t think that you, as a Sybil, are smarter than all these funds and projects.

They understand this themselves and, instead of completely getting rid of Sybils (And believe me, Web2/3 tools allow getting rid of 80% of Sybils, if not more), it’s much more interesting to manage them. One of the ways to manage Sybils is precisely the presence of various Gitcoin Passports and others. How to deal with these management tools is up to each project..

What should we, do?

In the case of zkSync, it’s worth waiting for the official announcement of the program and then deciding how necessary this passport is.

Another option is to slowly level up Gitcoin Passports. Considering that Gitcoin is integrated many places, we’ll encounter situations where having a passport would have been better..

Otherwise, it won’t be a problem to get a passport with 15+/20+ points! And ultimately, don’t forget about anti-FOMO accounts.

And one more thing!

There’s info about the upcoming launch of quests on zkSync. NFT LIBERTAS OMNIBUS holders (Those same NFTs that dropped for interactions with top collections on zkSync) will be able to participate. I mentioned the possibility of buying them when they were pennies.

Now these NFTs are trading at 0.084 ETH. Whether it makes sense to buy them now — Not sure! They may act as a multiplier, but no more. Moreover, the team talked about other mints (But are silent about this for now).

I see no reason to throw in unofficial info about the quests, but if you’re interested, the platform is supposedly being tested now, and the quests will resemble something like Linea. Inside, all Omnibus owners will find their own avatars, a marketplace with accessories, and more (Something like SuiShark).

Gitcoin Passport — HAS IT BEGUN?! was originally published in Coinmonks on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.
