Get Samsung’s 49-inch OLED ultrawide monitor for $800 off

If you’re going to upgrade to an OLED monitor for your gaming PC, you might as well go all-in. Today, Samsung’s Odyssey Neo G9 — tied for the biggest and widest OLED monitor on the market — is getting a serious discount at Amazon’s closeout site Woot: it’s $999.99 for a new model, which is an amazing $800 off its retail price.

A thousand bucks isn’t exactly cheap for a monitor, but that’s only a little more than you’d pay for some 27-inch OLED monitors, so I’m calling it a deal in terms of pure scale. The 5120×1440 resolution is basically two 1440p screens smooshed side-by-side into one panel, and it’s speedy with its 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms response time. Even the most powerful desktop PCs will have a difficult time maxing out this screen’s capabilities, especially for newer 3D games.

The G95SC uses DisplayPort and HDMI for video. It’s equipped with three USB-C ports, but strangely they’re used for data and charging, with none capable of DisplayPort Alt Mode. That means this thing isn’t the best for use with a more recent gaming laptop, despite coming with G-Sync onboard. (You can read our full review of this monitor, where it earned a PCWorld Editors’ Choice award.)

Like most recent gaming monitors, there’s a bit of RGB bling on the back for a multi-colored bias light. The software includes Samsung’s Tizen Smart TV capabilities, so you can stream games from services like Xbox Game Pass or Nvidia GeForce Now even without anything connected. It does have a VESA mount on the rear, though you’ll probably need an extra-beefy monitor arm that can handle its 28.4-pound weight.

Woot is selling this massive monitor new, not refurbished, so it should come with the same warranty support as you’d get directly from Samsung or any other store. The price is good for the next six days — or until stock runs out, which seems likely with this steep discount.
