Most major retailers launched their Nintendo Switch 2 preorders at 12AM ET on April 24th and sold out quickly — but thankfully, GameStop is doing things a bit differently. The company says it’s kicking off in-store preorders when the “doors open” today, with online preorders going live at 11AM ET. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to place a preorder for both the standalone console and the bundle from GameStop, with all the details you need to be among the first to get the Switch 2 when it launches on June 5th.
The standalone Switch 2 comes with a pair of Joy-Con 2 controllers, which magnetically attach to the console, and feature a new “C-button” — a shortcut to Nintendo’s new in-game chat feature, GameChat. Inside the box, you’ll also find a redesigned dock, a basic Joy-Con grip, Joy-Con wrist straps, an AC adapter, a USB-C charging capable, and an HDMI cable.
If you just want the standalone console, you’ll be able to preorder the Switch 2 for $449.99 at GameStop when online preorders open today, April 24th, at 11AM ET / 8AM PT. You can also place a preorder in-store whenever your local brick-and-mortar GameStop location opens.
If you’ve been eyeing the new Mario Kart game, you’ll probably want Nintendo’s limited release Switch 2 bundle. Like the standard console, GameStop will open online preorders for the $499.99 Mario Kart World bundle today, April 24th, at 11AM ET / 8AM PT, with in-store availability starting when locations open today. The bundle will save you $30 on a digital copy of Mario Kart World, which retails for $79.99 on its own, and will only be available through fall 2025 (or while supplies last). In addition to Mario Kart World and a Switch 2, the bundle includes all the accessories that come with the standard configuration, such as Joy-Con 2 controllers, a dock, and the required HDMI cable.
