Future iPhone may get 200MP main camera upgrade

Apple is testing a 200-megapixel sensor for a future iPhone model, according to a Weibo post by tipster Digital Chat Station.

This development suggests Apple may introduce a higher-resolution camera to its smartphone lineup, a feature already present in some Android devices. The evaluation points to a potential shift in Apple’s camera technology strategy.

The tipster, citing supply chain sources, stated on Weibo that Apple is assessing a 1/1.12-inch sensor. This sensor size is also expected to appear in the forthcoming Oppo Find X9 Ultra.

The 200-megapixel sensor is reportedly being tested for the iPhone’s primary rear camera. Commercial availability for this type of sensor is anticipated for next year.

Several Android devices already utilize large 200-megapixel sensors. The vivo X300 Ultra will feature a dual 200-megapixel camera setup, including a Sony LYTIA-901 1/1.12-inch sensor and a Samsung HP0 sensor.
