Rapper Drake has had another woeful time in the gambling world with a new $450,000 loss on UFC 305.
The music industry mogul backed Israel Adesanya to defeat Dricus du Plessis at UFC 305. The event took place in the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, but the Canadian rapper was to continue his dire streak of gambling form yet again.
His record of placing bets has become a cultural phenomenon, with bookies and bettors staking against the music icon. They have given the star’s run of bad luck the name, “The Drake Curse.”
The Drake Curse strikes againThe South African, du Plessis hit Adesanya with a solid hook in the fourth round, before forcing him to submit via rear naked choke. Adesanya, also known as ‘Stylebender’, would walk away from the bout as the loser, adding to Drake’s record.
The Drake Curse is an ongoing social media joke that gathers a head of steam every time the rapper opens his wallet to back a sporting event. He currently has a gambling deal with global getting company, Stake, signed in 2022.
Most recently Drizzy placed $300,000 in the Copa America semifinal, for his home nation Canada to best the might of Argentina. Sadly for Drake, his team couldn’t beat the current World Cup holders.
Drake also lost $565,000 on Tyson Fury’s attempt to knockout Oleksandr Usyk, but that ended poorly for the Gypsy King in Saudi Arabia. The music star previously bet against Fury’s brother Tommy in his fight against Jake Paul, but he would lose again to the tune of $400,000.
It hasn’t been all bad in 2024 for the global icon as he did win one of his bets on the Super Bowl victory of the Kansas City Chiefs. He posted to Instagram, saying “Can’t bet against the Swifties” in connection to Taylor Swift’s partner Travis Kelce, the Chief’s tight end.
2024 is more than halfway through, but there are still plenty of sporting spectacles for Drake to continue to crack the curse that follows the parlays he places.
