Brighter Shores – how to unlock all its professions

DATE POSTED:November 12, 2024
Brighter Shores 0 a citizen is under attack

Just like in real life, the grind of the daily job is present in Brighter Shores. There are several professions that you can become proficient at all of which offer something a little different to do when grinding for enough experience to take on some of the later tasks you will come across.

There are no really unique to RPG professions here, everything is a little obvious perhaps but working in Brighter Shores at your chosen profession is a pretty chilled-out experience in the main. And we all know how popular a good fishing section in an RPG can be. It is a path well trodden. So let’s have a look at the professions Brighter Shores has on offer at this stage in Early Access, Maybe more will get added as time goes by towards the full V1.0 release. If that turns out to be the case we will return to this page and update it accordingly,

All professions in Brighter Shores Alchemist

Brighter Shores Alchemist profession

Along with the guard, the Alchemist is a key early profession you should be leveling up as it allows you quite early on to create healing potions if you can forage items such as kelp. You unlock the Alchemy profession also as part of the tutorial when you are told how to create a healing potion for the injured Captain, but from then on you can purchase more empty potion bottles for copper from Ebsworth and craft your own to use on yourself for a little extra pick you up.

Chef

Becoming a chef in Brighter Shores doesn’t mean you have to spend years having Gordon Ramsey screaming at you for boiling the water wrong. Head to the Delectable Dab kitchen to unlock the profession and from the off, tasty treats like bacon sandwiches are available to create. As you level up your culinary skills you will unlock more complex and better performing recipes.

Ingredients can either be purchased from Kevin’s Ingredients or foraged like you would if you ran your own Scandinavian Michelin Star restaurant.

Fisher

Brighter Shores Fishing profession

Ah, fishing. The trade of so many in RPGs over the years, so obviously it makes an appearance in Andrew Glover’s Brighter Shores.

To start fishing you need to purchase a Fishing Spear from Melv in Hopeport and head to the beach. Once you get to level 20 you can unlock passive fishing so you can level up in downtime. The fish you catch can then be used in your chef profession.

Forager

Brighter Shores Forager profession

Another profession unlocked early on by foraging Kelp at the beach as part of the potion-making bit of the tutorial. Once you start picking up (any old crap) what you find you will rank up your foraging skills. Higher-level items will level it up quicker. Once again, level 20 and passive leveling is one of your early goals.

Guard

Brighter Shores Guard profession

The guard profession is pretty much what you will start to level up in first. Simply by completing the tutorial, you will have to take on some goblins and get into battle. Make sure you have been kitted out with the sword from the Quartermaster and equipped it as it makes fighting much quicker than just punching a gobbo in the face. Although that can be fun too.

Leveling up the guard is done by fighting, and this allows you to upgrade your gear. Make sure you only fight enemies around your level or a little bit higher. There is zero point in getting into fights you cannot win.

Once you get to level 20 you unlock a passive area where your guard will level up even if you are not playing, which is handy for downtime.
