AMD unveils Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 with 208MB of cache

AMD unveils Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 with 208MB of cache

AMD unveiled its Ryzen 9950X3D2 Dual Edition desktop processor, featuring 208MB of total on-chip cache.

This chip marks AMD’s first desktop processor where both chiplets incorporate its 3D V-Cache technology, potentially enhancing performance for gaming and demanding applications.

The Ryzen 9950X3D2 includes 104MB of cache per chiplet, totaling 208MB. Last year’s 9950X3D model was a single-chiplet design. Jack Huynh, AMD Senior VP, stated that “208MB of cache means more game data, more assets and more working data sitting right next to the CPU cores.”

The processor is a 16-core unit built on the Zen 5 architecture. It has a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 200W, an increase from the 170W TDP of its predecessor.

AMD indicated the new chip provides a five to 10 percent performance improvement in applications such as Unreal Engine, Chromium, Blender, and DaVinci Resolve.

The Ryzen 9950X3D2 chip is scheduled for release on April 22. Pricing information has not yet been disclosed by the company. The standard 9950X3D currently sells for approximately $675.
