Amazon announces new Kindle devices, but quickly redacts news release

DATE POSTED:October 16, 2024
Amazon Kindle leak

Amazon has announced a whole new line of Kindle devices, including the first color Kindle and a renewed version of its previous product.

It was through a press release in Spanish the company shared the news, welcoming people to ‘Meet the new Kindle family’ on October 15.

Just a day later, however, the announcement was removed and the link redirected to an older news piece.

An archived version of the release can be seen online, but it’s not yet known why Amazon pulled the announcement.

If the archived release remains correct, the company will be introducing the first color device, a reinvented Kindle Scribe, “the fastest Kindle Paperwhite so far” and a new entry-level Kindle in a matcha color.

Kindle Colorsoft, upgraded Scribe and Paperwhite, along with an all new device

The Colorsoft is described as bringing “color to Kindle without compromise.”

The custom screen includes a light guide with nitride LEDs that, combined with custom algorithms, improves color and increases brightness. Users will be able to choose between standard or vibrant color styles.

Next up is the re-imagined Kindle Scribe which features a note-taking element so people can write their thoughts directly in the book. The note then becomes part of the page and the text flows dynamically around it.

The integrated notebook has been updated with AI technology so summarizing pages and notes into concise points is now possible and these can be shared directly from the notebook tab.

After originally being debuted in 2012, the Paperwhite is the company’s best-selling device and it has now been upgraded to be quicker than before. “Scrolling through your Library or Kindle Store is agile and responsive, and page changes are 25% faster.”

In its now-redacted release, which has been translated into English, the company shared news about its most compact Kindle in the matcha color.

This weighs in at just 5.6 ounces, with a 300ppp screen “without reflections, faster page changes, higher contrast ratio and a 25% brighter front light in the maximum configuration.”
