We know we have a new Nintendo Switch 2 coming. We have a PlayStation 6 in the works too, but Microsoft’s Xbox plans have been all over the place in the last year with the drive to turn “everything into an Xbox”, suggesting that before long you may be playing Halo on your cordless vacuum cleaner. When it comes to new branded Xbox hardware however things have gotten much murkier.
With a hardware refresh, albeit seemingly more for the sake of it than not from the PlayStation camp, the risk that the Series X (we aren’t even considering a Series S refresh anymore) would grow old gracefully has been real. The initial rumors that we would see new hardware from both Sony and Microsoft in 2028 seems a long way out from here for Microsoft with no new hardware to offer, but that could be an erroneous prediction if what Call of Duty leaker The Ghost of Hope has heard is anywhere close to being correct.
Open secret
In a series of posts on the CoD player posted, “I know people don’t believe it but Xbox next console being in 2026 is pretty much an open secret within the industry. Seems early but I think it makes sense with where Xbox is headed.”
But why would a CoD leaker have found this out? Well it does make sense when tied in with another post, “I’m hearing that the next Xbox console is still coming in 2026 and will be called “Xbox Prime”. Still unclear if it’s a code name or the actual name. I’ve heard Infinity Ward’s next COD is still being considered a day one release for this, “ Ghost stated.
Take this with a huge grain of salt:

Now, let’s be clear here – unless this is a super-bizarre tie in with Amazon, the online superstore has the word “Prime” well and truly tied up and associated with it’s own brand, so we can confidently say Xbox Prime is not what it is going to be, if it even exists at all. And that’s before you start worrying about Logan Paul and his energy drink.
A further post also stated that this wasn’t handheld hardware either. So, while it could be a thing, we aren’t really having it unless it’s a serious refresh of the Series X to keep Xbox fans happy.
With Nintendo dragging it’s heels over announcing the Switch 2, the landscape isn’t as simple these days as just saying, “Oh, btw, check out our new machine in a few months time”, so believe if you must but we rank this as unlikely at best.
