X launches Exclusive Threads to paywall content for subscribers

X announced updates to its creator subscriptions platform, introducing a new feature called Exclusive Threads.

This update allows creators to paywall parts of tweet threads for subscribers only, aiming to increase subscription revenue. The feature embeds subscribe buttons directly into conversations to encourage sign-ups.

Creators can tease paywalled content in a parent post while locking the rest of the thread behind a subscription. This approach lets users preview content before requiring payment. The company shared a GIF demonstrating the feature’s implementation.

Creator Subscriptions 2.0 is here: powerful new tools to grow your subscribers and earn more.

The official X Creators account described the update as “Creator Subscriptions 2.0.” The account stated the tools are designed to “grow your subscribers and earn more.” Nikita Bier, the company’s head of product, also shared the demonstration.

X has added features to attract creators, including a ‘paid partnership’ label for sponsored posts. The platform competes with Threads, a text-based social media service. This context explains the naming choice for Exclusive Threads.
