The 2025 World Series of Poker is almost at a close and a surprise winner could be about to take the title of Player of the Year.

The current standings for the World Series of Poker (WSOP)’s Player of the Year competition feature Illinois’ Scott Bohlman in the top spot, even though he only has one bracelet under his belt, unlike competitor Benny Glaser with two. He started his summer with eight cashes, contributing to his current impressive total of 2,144.27 points.

The mixed game player’s famous wins include earning $436,044 in a 1,692-runner field in Event #17: $2,000 No-Limit Hold’em back in 2018. While Bohlman currently leads the scoreboard in the Player of the Year rankings, the battle is far from over.

Benny Glaser is sitting in fifth in chips and second in the Player of the Year race, with 50 players left in Event #47: $2,500 Mixed O8/Stud 8, raking in 2,035.53 points in the Player of the Year table. Coming close behind in third place in the ranking is PLO specialist Bruno Furth, with 2,021.1. It’s a tight race that could still prove exciting as the series draws to a close.

Who else has come close to Player of the Year?

While the rest of the top 10 all sit below 2,000 points, there are some mighty contenders still in play, including multiple bracelet winners Nick Schulman, Nick Guagenti, Joao Vieria, and Lou Garza. Some relatively new faces also appear in the form of newly-crowned champions, Ryan Hoenig and Blaz Zervaj. The current Player of the Year top 10 hold a combined 29 WSOP gold bracelets between them.

2025 is the second year that the WSOP is operating with the updated Player of the Year rules, which require a minimum of five cashes to qualify and count only a player’s top ten results, as well as the player’s best online result. The WSOP also recently updated its guidelines on AI.
