Turmp delays TikTok ban again
President Donald Trump has expressed willingness to delay the TikTok ban again if a deal to sell the app’s U.S. operations to American owners isn’t finalized by the June 19 deadline.
According to an Axios report, during an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Trump stated that he might grant TikTok another extension, according to Axios. The current deadline stems from a law passed by Congress last year, which mandated that TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, sell the short-form video app to avoid a ban.
TikTok was briefly banned in January when the initial deadline passed, but Trump intervened, delaying the ban for 90 days. He suggested a preference for a joint venture with U.S. ownership during this period. In April, Trump granted another 75-day extension, citing the Chinese government’s reluctance to approve the deal due to “Reciprocal Tariffs.”
Trump’s comments on “Meet the Press” revealed a softer stance on TikTok, with him admitting, “I have a little warm spot in my heart for TikTok.” This statement comes as negotiations continue over the potential sale of TikTok’s U.S. operations.
