Timex has partnered with fashion house Maison Margiela to create a reimagining of its retro-style T80 timepiece into a ring watch.
This is a first for the brand that is otherwise synonymous with wrist watches, but the company says this Timex x MM6 Maison Margiela collection “redefines how time itself can be worn.”
The classic watch has been redesigned into a new adaptable accessory, with the company explaining how it offers a “multitude of styling options.”
The ring watch is equipped with a polished stainless steel case and features a mirrored mask displaying a sequence of digits from 0 to 23. The six is encircled as a nod to the MM6 numerical signature.
It fits pretty snug to the finger as it includes a hidden expansion band under the stainless steel strap so it can accommodate different finger sizes but it does come in sizes S/M and M/L.
While the ring watch shouldn’t be used when diving into pools, it is water resistant to 30 meters but the team has warned it is suitable only for hand-washing or accidental splashes of water.
The ring watch is actually useful too as although it can’t count your steps or feedback your heart rate like the releases from other brands, it does actually tell the time with the digital time movement.
There’s an internal electrical circuit that controls the rate of the ticking and the ring comes with an SR521SW battery.
Timex partners with quirky French designer Maison MargielaIt was only last year, in 2023, when Casio unveiled a collection of ring watches based on its classic timepieces. But while they looked cool, they didn’t actually work.
In Timex’s announcement about the ring watch, they nod to its collaboration partner Maison Margiela. The French luxury fashion house has been around since 1997 and often comes out with quirky designs that bend the rules of fashion.
One of their most famous designs is the Tabi shoe which features a split toe, with many saying they look like hooves.
The two haven’t just worked on the ring watch, but have also offered a two-in-one 36mm wrist watch which has been sold as a gift set with an additional standalone stainless steel bracelet.
Although the ring watch is out of the ordinary, fans of the brands have already snatched them up as they’re out of stock.
