Square Enix announces it will hold a livestream event to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the NieR franchise.
The live stream will be held on YouTube and is scheduled to take place on April 19, 2025 ,at 2 AM PT. The stream is expected to be two and a half hours long.
The broadcast will feature discussions with NieR developers, including series creator Yoko Taro. Other appearances include producer Yosuke Saito, composer Keiichi Okabe, senior game designer Taura Takahisa, and voice actor Hiroki Yasumoto.
Fans can also look forward to updates on the latest NieR events, merchandise like limited edition wine, and a live performance during the stream.
The NieR series debuted in August 2010 on PS3 and Xbox 360 to a mixed reception. Several releases later the 2017 NieR: Automata became a critical success, selling over nine million copies (December 2024) since it first launched. The latest entry was the 2021 remaster NieR: Replicant, which reimagined the original 2010 game with modern graphics.
In a similar fashion to PlayStation’s 30th anniversary event, players are hopeful that Square Enix will use the event as an opportunity to share plans for the future of the series.
Despite the mobile game, NieR: Reincarnation, being canceled there is hope that the live stream will introduce the community to a new title. Fans speculate whether the livestream will shed light on rumors surrounding a NieR: Automata sequel, a game teased by developers a few months prior.
