Spotify will increase premium subscription prices by $1 to $2, effective this February.
The adjustments, similar to a 2024 price hike, will affect subscribers in the U.S., Estonia, and Latvia, who will receive email notifications regarding their February bills. Spotify stated the price increases reflect the value delivered, aim to improve user experience, and benefit artists. The company reported paying $10 billion to music rights holders in 2024. However, Grammy-nominated songwriters boycotted a Spotify-hosted awards event last year, protesting alleged decreasing royalties.
Individual plans will increase from $12 to $13 monthly, and student plans will rise from $6 to $7 monthly. The Duo plan will now cost $19 monthly, up from $17, and the Family plan will increase to $22 monthly from $20.
Spotify faced scrutiny late last year for running recruitment advertisements for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The company said these advertisements were part of a broader U.S. government campaign across platforms such as Meta and Google. Spotify recently confirmed the campaign concluded, with no ICE advertisements currently active on its service.
