Sony’s PS5 just got a painful price bump

DATE POSTED:April 14, 2025
Sony’s PS5 just got a painful price bump

Sony has confirmed an immediate price increase for PS5 systems in the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The hikes affect the digital edition in the UK and Europe, and both digital and standard versions in Australia and New Zealand.

The new prices for the PS5 are as follows:

  • PS5 digital edition prices: UK £429.99 (up £40), Europe €499.99 (up €50), Australia AUD $749.95, New Zealand NZD $859.95
  • PS5 standard edition prices: Australia AUD $829.95, New Zealand NZD $949.95

The PS5 Pro is not affected by the price hike. In response, Sony is reducing the price of its PS5 disc drives to £69.99 / €79.99 / AUD $124.95 / NZD $139.95.

Sony cited a “challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates” as the reason for the price increase, according to a statement on the PlayStation Blog.

Microsoft wants you to escape capitalism by buying more Xbox

This is not the first time Sony has raised PS5 prices, and it comes shortly after the company increased prices for PS Plus tiers in 15 Latin American countries, Australia, and several Asian nations. Sony warns that other countries within EMEA not listed may also see price increases.
