EA just announced the next expansion for The Sims 4, bringing new features that allow players to run their businesses.
The upcoming Businesses & Hobbies expansion brings the entrepreneur fantasy to the life simulator, introducing new skills, aspirations, and more.
From tattoo parlors to art galleries, the expansion will offer plenty of avenues to explore for those looking to earn a few extra Simoleons.
The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies expansion pack is set to release on March 6, 2025. The Sims 4 is currently available on Xbox and PlayStation consoles and PC. The expansion is currently available to pre-order for $39.99, offering the Set Up Shop digital bonus for those who acquire the pack early.
Players who purchase before April 18, 2025, will also be able to claim the Practice Makes Perfect Priscilla Statue, Sweetest Treat Display Case, and the Beautiful Flaws Lamp.
New SkillsIn a blog post from Electronic Arts (EA), details were shared about the new skills Sims can learn as part of the new business-centered expansion.
Players who purchase the expansion will be able to use the tattooing skill when the pack launches, bringing further customization options to The Sims 4. As the skill is leveled up, more accessories will be available, such as stamps, stencils, and the ability to apply touch-ups. You’ll also be able to tailor the store experience itself, such as adding music to the background.
With Tattoo Paint Mode, sims will be able to wear custom tattoos and share creations with other users online using the gallery. Tattoos in the expansion and from previous packs will also have layer functionality, allowing you to stack multiple tattoos at once.
In The Sims 4 expansion, players will also be able to pursue pottery. Systems such as the pottery wheel can create new items such as tea sets and vases, and players can also opt to glaze them for a shiny finish before putting them in the pottery kiln. Once the objects are made, you’ll be able to either sell them in your small business or use them as decoration.
New locationNordhaven is releasing as a new neighborhood to explore in the Businesses & Hobbies expansion. It is set to feature a new variety of events for you to further explore and expand your business.
In the blog post, EA said: “Hobbies are best when shared, and Nordhaven’s picturesque and inspirational neighborhoods of Gammelvik and Iverstad offer countless opportunities to connect with like-minded Sims who share similar interests and enthusiasm for the things your Sims care about most.
“Hobby Meetups are the must-attend events to socialize, form new friendships, and even find a mentor to help your Sims build skills faster.”
By leveling up skills like tattooing and pottery, Sims can eventually become a mentor and teach others in classes and lectures. Lectures will serve as a way for players to earn mastery perks in The Sims 4, which can be monetized to earn Simoleon.
The post adds: “Classes are Events that have Goals, so beware that attendees will not pay if the Class does not earn at least a Bronze reward. Good luck!”
Start a BusinessWhen it comes to the expansion coming in March, it’s all about business. The life simulator will allow you to customize every aspect of your work environment, including the name and logo.
The blog said: “For Sims who are just starting up their business or feel most inspired at home, you can build a Small Business on a Residential Lot and designate a dedicated space in their home to set up shop.
“You can also run their business on the new Small Business Venue Lot and choose the kind of customers you want to attract.”
As you become more successful, Sims will increase business renown. Along the way, you’ll be able to choose from a selection of business perks, such as new interactions and effects.
Alignments are also coming to The Sims 4, and based on how you run your store, whether you do things by the books or decide to cut corners, you’ll be able to earn dreamer, schemer, or neutral paths.
