Signal finally lets you restore iPhone chats if you pay for storage

Signal has launched secure message backups for iOS, enabling users to save and restore conversations and media in the event of device loss or damage.

The feature permits storage of up to 100MB of text messages and the past 45 days of photos, videos, GIFs, and files on its free tier. A monthly subscription of $1.99 extends backup capabilities to all text messages and up to 100GB of media beyond the 45-day limit. Signal initially introduced secure backups on Android devices in September, employing end-to-end encryption for message and media storage. Users access backups via a 64-character recovery key generated on their device; Signal alerts that it cannot assist with recovery if this key is lost.
