Police Syndicate Accused of Extorting 10,000,000 USDT From Man Using Fake Search Warrant: Report

DATE POSTED:November 4, 2024

Thai law enforcement has reportedly arrested seven police officers and one civilian accused of staging a false domestic search that involved the attempted extortion of 10 million USDT from a victim.

Local publication QQ reports that the group targeted a Chinese national by swarming his residence and flashing what appeared to be a real search warrant.

The suspects told the victim, Mr. Sai, that he was accused of being involved with passport forgery and that he should pay large amounts of cash to avoid prosecution. They subsequently stole all his mobile phones and computers and further threatened him with other charges.

Refusing the initial demand of 10 million USDT, Sai reportedly paid a 165,000 USDT bribe to get rid of the suspects, sending the stablecoins to their crypto wallets.

The suspects then allegedly forced him and his wife to record a video saying that the police had treated them fairly and done nothing wrong during the search.

After recording the video, the suspects returned his mobile phone, but not the computer.

Days later, the suspects asked Mr. Sai to make another transfer to the tune of $20,570. After the victim complied, he asked his lawyer to report the matter to the authorities.

Upon reporting the alleged extortion, local Thai Police confirmed that there were 12 individuals involved in the case, including nine police officers, two translators and one civilian. Seven suspects have been arrested so far while the rest are still being pursued.
