Sony’s PlayStation 5 has accumulated 80.3 million unit sales globally since its November 2020 release, as detailed in the company’s latest quarterly financial report, which outlines performance across its business segments.
The PlayStation 5 recorded 2.5 million unit sales during Q1 2025. This represents a marginal increase when compared to the 2.4 million units sold in Q1 2024. Software sales across both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 platforms also demonstrated growth, totaling 65.9 million copies in Q1 2025, an increase from 53.6 million copies sold during the corresponding period in the previous year.
Engagement with PlayStation Plus, Sony’s subscription service, also saw an increase in monthly active users. The service registered 123 million monthly active users in Q1 2025, up from 116 million in Q1 2024. Revenue generated from add-on content, such as downloadable content (DLC), also experienced an uptick. This category brought in 292,609 million yen in Q1 2025, a slight rise from 290,846 million yen in Q1 2024.
The console’s cumulative sales figure of 80.3 million units positions its sales trajectory approximately on par with that of its predecessor, the PlayStation 4.
