Norwegian robotics firm 1x has unveiled NEO Gamma, a next-generation humanoid designed for the home.
The robot is said to be a bespoke offering, finely tuned for the softer touches required in our homes, with contemporary AI capabilities to assist with many household tasks.
Following on from Figure’s Helix launch, NEO Gamma is a continuation of consumer-focused humanoids. The company hasn’t just presented an extension of what would be deployed in a factory environment, even if the human-like appearance of NEO Gamma will take some getting used to.
It is hoped that this offering will be a calm, tranquil, addition to the family setting.
Images of the robot show it carrying out household tasks such as making coffee, doing the laundry, and vacuuming.
An in-house language model is embedded within NEO Gamma for clear conversations, aided by multi-speaker audio and enhanced microphones.
Further home testing will determine the viability and how quickly, the product can reach commercial scaling.

Into customers’ homes as soon as possible“For humanoid robots to truly integrate into everyday life, they must be developed alongside humans, not in isolation”, said Bernt Bornich, 1x CEO.
“The home provides real-world context and the diversity of data needed for humanoids to grow in intelligence and autonomy. It also teaches them the nuances of human life.”
He continued, “With NEO Gamma, every engineering and design decision was made with one goal in mind: getting NEO into customers’ homes as quickly as possible… We’re close. We can’t wait to share more soon.”
When OpenAI was announced as a backer of 1x, many sat up to take notice.
AI with a physical appearance is an area of generative AI that is ripe for development and gains, but it is a difficult challenge.
We are seeing evolution in humanoid creations, moving beyond early industrial deployments, but the systems have a long way to go, and a lot of testing and improvement before they can be deemed ready and equipped to be a realistic addition to the home.
