The following article contains spoilers. If you haven’t seen Episode 1 yet, bear that in mind.
“When the pandemic ended the videogame industry took a hit. Mythic Quest lost a lot of good people – when we fired them.”, so begins a new long haired David, studio head honcho at Mythic Quest, as Season 4 kicks off with his motivational team talk
One of the best comedy series in recent years has undoubtedly been Apple TV’s video-game studio based Mythic Quest which centres around the development of the titular game which has grown to be one of the biggest MMOs in the world.
Over the past three seasons we have seen the trials and lots of tribulations of the game’s creators and legends in an ever-changing gaming landscape but now Mythic Quest faces new challenges.
“We’ve had some lows – like Covid…ending.” It’s funny but it also highlights some of the actual boardroom thinking that has permeated this industry over the last several years.
David now has long, industry hair. Dana has managed to release Playpen and Rachel has risen from games tester to Head of Monetization – every gamer’s favorite job.
“She’s gonna make this company more money than that virus ever did!”
Ian and Poppy (Wrexham FC—owning Rob McElhenny and Charlotte Nicdao) have returned from their spin off studio GrimmPop and MQ now has a new expansion on the horizon. Or was it all a dream?
Yep, MQ Season 4 begins with the tired old dream trope TV loves so much but has embraced the corn and made it funny. Although David does still have long hair.
Savage take on the current industryThe problem is David’s eye is no longer on the past successes of Mythic Quest and rather the potential of Playpen, so setting up the premise for the new series in the first few minutes of the episode.
When he blithely says the new expansion looks fun, Poppy’s reaction of, “did you say fun? F*ck fun! It’s revolutionary” almost sums up the current state of gaming in one throwaway gag.
Oh, and speaking of Poppy she now has a hot boyfriend and is desperately trying to sort out her work/work/life balance (no, that’s not a typo, that’s just gaming) and that’s the source of more double-entendres than a 70’s British sitcom – Don’t worry Ian, she can grind all night.
The first two episodes of Mythic Quest Season 4 are on Apple TV now and a new episode will air each week. We are also getting a new four-part spin-off called Side Quest which features more dramatic and less comedic storylines, such as we have seen one per series so far that received a huge amount of critical acclaim and have been some of the standout moments of the run.
How many episodes in Mythic Quest Season 4?There are 10 episodes in Season 4 of Mythic Quest, with the season finale penned in for March 26th, 2025.
