Mastercard Brings MetaMask Crypto Payments to US Shoppers

DATE POSTED:February 26, 2026

Consensys made its cryptocurrency card, MetaMask Card, generally available in the United States, enabling users to pay with crypto anywhere Mastercard is accepted, online or in-store.

The card is fully self-custodial, so users maintain control of their digital assets in their MetaMask wallet until they pay, the company said in a Thursday (Feb. 26) press release. It also offers up to 1% back in crypto rewards on purchases.

The company also launched the premium MetaMask Metal Card, which offers a metal card and up to 3% back in crypto rewards on purchases for a $199 yearly subscription, per the release.

Gal Eldar, MetaMask product lead at Consensys, said in the release that MetaMask Card is designed to “become so seamlessly woven into daily life that the line between on-chain and off-chain fades away entirely.”

Sherri Haymond, global head of digital commercialization at Mastercard, said in the release that the companies’ collaboration enables people to spend crypto securely and seamlessly.

“This latest expansion of MetaMask Card demonstrates our shared commitment to unlocking choice, trust and inclusion for the next era of commerce,” Haymond said in the release.

Mastercard and MetaMask initially launched MetaMask Card in European Union countries and the United Kingdom in August 2024, piloting the crypto-to-fiat card on a limited basis, with only a few thousand digital-only cards.

The companies said at the time that before the launch of the card, self-custodial wallet users who were looking to spend money outside the crypto world had to transfer their crypto assets to an exchange, convert them to fiat, and then move the money to a traditional bank account to spend.

Today, in addition to the U.S., the U.K. and the European Economic Area countries, MetaMask Card is available in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Mexico and Switzerland, according to the Thursday press release. The company plans to expand it to additional markets.

“We’ve seen tens of thousands of users around the world use it for everything from morning coffee to engagement rings, and now we’re excited to bring that to U.S. users, including places like New York that previously haven’t had access,” Eldar said in the release.
