Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger moves to Anthropic Labs

DATE POSTED:January 14, 2026
Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger moves to Anthropic Labs

Anthropic announced the expansion of its Labs team to incubate experimental products at the frontier of Claude’s capabilities. This move involves Mike Krieger joining Labs and Ami Vora leading the Product organization amid rapid model advancements.

Anthropic’s AI models evolve quickly, with each release delivering leaps in capabilities. The company’s product development strategy emphasizes tinkering and experimenting at the limits of Claude’s abilities. Teams test early, unpolished versions directly with users to identify effective features. Successful experiments then scale into reliable products for customers. This process operates in partnership across different motions within the organization.

This approach has generated several key products. Claude Code progressed from a research preview to a billion-dollar product within six months. The Model Context Protocol, known as MCP, achieved 100 million monthly downloads and established itself as the industry standard for connecting AI systems to external tools and data sources.

Other products include Skills and Claude in Chrome, which extend Claude’s functionalities. Cowork launched as a research preview on the previous day, designed to deliver Claude’s agentic capabilities directly to desktop environments for users.

The Labs expansion builds directly on these achievements. The team focuses on incubating experimental products that push the boundaries of Claude’s current abilities. Mike Krieger, who co-founded Instagram and served as Anthropic’s Chief Product Officer for the past two years, now joins Labs to collaborate with Ben Mann on these initiatives.

Ami Vora, who joined Anthropic at the end of 2025, assumes leadership of the Product organization. She will partner closely with CTO Rahul Patil to scale Claude experiences relied upon by millions of users daily. This structure supports ongoing product development efforts.

Daniela Amodei, President of Anthropic, commented on the initiative: “The speed of advancement in AI demands a different approach to how we build, how we organize, and where we focus. Labs gives us room to break the mold and explore. We now have the right structure in place to support the most critical motions for our product organization—discovering experimental products at the frontier of Claude’s capabilities, and scaling them responsibly to meet the needs of our enterprise customers and growing user base.”

Anthropic seeks to hire builders who possess a proven track record of creating products that users love. Candidates should demonstrate experience in shaping emerging technologies responsibly. The company invites applications from those interested in developing at the frontier of AI capabilities.
