Google Photos redesigns sharing with immersive full-screen carousel

Google Photos has initiated a redesign of its sharing interface, incorporating an animated image carousel in version 7.59, observed in conjunction with Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2. This update could remove the existing “Modify” option for adjusting image selections.

The current Google Photos interface presents a bottom-sliding carousel sheet for reviewing selected images. The revised in-development UI occupies the full screen, scaling image sizes during scrolling. This new interface appears to omit the “Modify” button, which currently allows users to alter image selections before sharing. This change would require users to reselect all images if adjustments are needed.

Minor adjustments in the new interface include changes to the division between the image carousel and sharing targets, and updated labeling and appearance for sharing links. Observers noted the potential loss of the “Modify” function as the most impactful alteration.

These findings stem from an APK teardown, which examines work-in-progress code to predict future features. These features may not always reach a public release. The current observations occurred on devices running QPR3 Beta 2, suggesting a potential rollout with a future Pixel Drop.
