Destiny 2’s Heresy has brought about a return to the Dreadnaught but with a ton of new content to make it through, including a challenging Dungeon that many Guardians are loving.

Alongside this are more cosmetics to apply to your characters with one brand new category — Holochips.

Here, we’ll take a deeper dive into what these Holochips are and how they work so you know whether you’re into this fresh take on Destiny 2 flair.

Destiny 2 Holochips explained

If you’ve gone into the Eververse Store and wondered what these interesting new cosmetics are, you’re not alone.

Bungie has been going deeper into the cosmetics hole thanks to various crossovers with the likes of Star Wars, Ghostbusters, and more, and Holochips are the next step.

In the second week of Heresy Act 1, you can claim one free Holochip from Eververse, called Ardent Adoration. This free Holochip is a one-time-use consumable that lasts 12 hours once activated.

Once acquired, it is found in the Consumables tab of your inventory and applies only to one character — not your entire account. If you want the effect on multiple characters, you’ll need to acquire additional Holochips and apply them separately.

If you want to keep the effect permanently, you can purchase it for 800 Silver from Eververse. After buying, you can go to Flair then over to Miscellaneous and finally, Holochips, to pull as many consumables or extractors as you need into your inventory.

Once activated, the Holochip effect creates a glowing trail behind your Guardian when you move.

This effect remains active for 12 hours and must be reapplied manually once it expires but if you ever want to remove it before the 12 hours are up, you can use the accompanying Holochip Extractor (also found in your Consumables tab).

However, using the extractor will end the effect permanently without returning the consumable to your inventory.

One important thing to note is that Holochips do not work in combat. If you take damage, the effect will be temporarily disabled for around 5 seconds before reactivating.

This means that while they look great for social spaces and exploration, they won’t be visible during combat encounters.

We expect there to be a bunch more Holochips making their way into the store later down the line, spicing things up in the cosmetics department, allowing you to show off some nice visual effects both in the tower and on patrols.
