Cursor creator Anysphere now valued at billion

Anysphere, the company behind the AI-powered coding tool Cursor, has reportedly secured $900 million in funding at a valuation of approximately $9 billion, according to a report by The Financial Times citing sources familiar with the matter.

The funding round was led by Thrive Capital, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Accel. This investment follows a previous round in December, where Anysphere raised $105 million from Thrive and a16z at a $2.5 billion valuation, as reported by TechCrunch.

To date, the startup has raised over $173 million in funding, according to data from Crunchbase. Existing investors are keen to maintain their stake, while new investors, including Index Ventures and Benchmark, are reportedly eager to join.

The interest in Anysphere is part of a broader trend, with other AI-powered coding startups also attracting investor attention. In February, Windsurf, a competitor to Anysphere, was in talks to secure funding at a $3 billion valuation, with OpenAI, an investor in Anysphere, attempting to acquire Windsurf for a similar amount.
