Those subscribed to PlayStation Plus have around 24 hours to pick up one of Bethesda’s weirder releases for free. Ghostwire Tokyo, a first-person action game where you duke it out with ghosts, is free until December 3.

On December 3, Sony swaps over the games available. You only need to be subscribed to PlayStation Plus to acquire the freebie and don’t need any of the more expensive Premium or Extra tiers. You’ll also need a PS5, as it was never released on PS4.

Ghostwire: Tokyo was developed by Tango Gameworks, best known for The Evil Within and Hi-Fi Rush. The studio was shuttered this year by Microsoft, as it enacted sweeping layoffs across the board.

It was headed up by Kenji Kimura, who has experience working with a massive variety of titles. Most recently he’s been credited on Tekken 8.

Bethesda (and Microsoft)’s Ghostwire: Tokyo is free on PlayStation Plus

Before being bought out in 2021, Bethesda and Tango had worked a deal with Sony to bring Ghostwire: Tokyo as a console exclusive for the PS5. The game didn’t perform incredibly well at retail, but a sequel was planned before Microsoft gutted its staff. It did, much like Tango’s other work, Hi-Fi Rush, receive plenty of praise from critics in reviews.

However, the title is now available via Game Pass for those on Xbox and PC, with the Steam version currently discounted by 75% for the Autumn sale.

Ghostwire: Tokyo sees you fend off ghosts in various missions, with the help of a spirit who has decided to inhabit you. Using new spirit powers, you’ll beat up ghosts around Tokyo.

PS Plus for December already announced

For those waiting for December 3’s games, you’ll have to wait until tomorrow. Sony will be giving out It Takes Two, a co-op game based around a couple’s relationship on the rocks. Joining that is TemTem, a Pokemon alternative, and Aliens: Dark Descent, a tactics game based on the classic horror-sci-fi movie.
