Crypto Analyst Says Bitcoin Back in Business, Calls for BTC Uptrend if One Support Level Holds

A crypto strategist who accurately called Bitcoin’s collapse below $80,000 believes that BTC’s long-term uptrend will remain intact if it stays above a key price area.

In a new strategy session, pseudonymous analyst Cheds tells his 49,800 YouTube subscribers that Bitcoin appears to have broken out of a W pattern on the four-hour chart.

A W pattern is typically seen as a bullish reversal structure, as it suggests that an asset has printed a price floor after bouncing from a key support level twice.

“We had a break of the W and then a throwback, a throwback being a bullish retest from above. This looks pretty conducive, and this type of price action tells me, ‘Okay, we might be front running $72,000.’

Giving me a little bit of a confidence was a shift in equities markets, and the idea that price was at the MA (moving average) 50, and that’s been support.”

Cheds also says that Bitcoin will likely see higher prices as long as its immediate support level between $78,500 and $81,000 holds.

“Regain $81,000 and we’re back in business… Back above $81,000, we’re back with the idea of regaining that low time frame pivot corresponding with the high time frame support at the MA50, and with the idea that the bulls are going to recapture the trend, which is the rising MA200.”

Stablecoins are surpassing Visa—here’s what comes next

Stablecoins are no longer a crypto niche—today, they are the infrastructure layer powering the next generation of global payments.

Over the past year, the stablecoin market cap has doubled, soaring from under $150 billion to a record $232 billion, while transaction volumes tripled, now eclipsing even Visa’s sprawling network.

Tether (USDT), USD Coin (USDC) and PayPal’s PYUSD continue to dominate transaction flows, but dozens of new stablecoins keep entering the market, each targeting specific regions, user segments or enterprise needs.

Combined with explosive growth, these developments confirm stablecoins’ evolution: No longer a crypto niche but foundational payment infrastructure. Stablecoins now operate at the intersection of regulation, financial technology and real-world usage.

Impending U.S. Regulation Could Be a Historic Milestone

Perhaps the most significant development is Washington’s newfound seriousness about stablecoin regulation. The bipartisan GENIUS Act in the Senate proposes what could become the first balanced federal framework for the sector.

It recognizes both bank and non-bank issuers, allows state-regulated entities to continue operations, and imposes requirements for full 1:1 backing and strict compliance with consumer protection laws. It’s designed to make stablecoins safer without killing innovation.

The STABLE Act, scheduled for House Financial Services Committee review on April 2, focuses on risk management and abuse prevention through strengthened anti-money laundering protocols and increased oversight. Together, these bills signal that the U.S. is done watching from the sidelines.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has publicly supported stablecoin development as a strategic priority. He sees stablecoins as a way to extend U.S. dollar dominance into the digital economy. With stablecoins, the U.S. can preserve global financial influence without requiring a complete overhaul of the existing monetary system.

Enterprise Infrastructure Is Going On-chain

The latest report from Foresight Ventures demonstrates how stablecoins are already addressing long-standing gaps in traditional finance: While bank wires remain costly and slow for cross-border transactions, stablecoins settle instantly for mere cents. They operate globally, around the clock, without relying on outdated rails, like SWIFT or ACH.

Enterprise adoption is accelerating, as stablecoins offer faster liquidity, cheaper settlement and programmable payments.

Stripe’s acquisition of Bridge underscores major payment providers’ growing commitment to stablecoins. Bridge enables businesses that want to plug into the blockchain economy to issue and orchestrate stablecoins. BVNK automates payment routing between fiat, crypto and local banking partners, making it easier for global companies to integrate stablecoins into their treasury stacks.

Yield-bearing stablecoins, like Mountain’s USDM or Ethena’s USDe, are giving digital dollars a new utility by offering better returns than most savings accounts, with fewer intermediaries. If these use cases prove sustainable, they could become increasingly attractive to both businesses and consumers.

Consumer Payment Apps Are Adopting Stablecoins Fast

Stablecoins are moving into apps people already use, with PayPal, Venmo, Nubank and Revolut embedding stablecoin functionality directly into their interfaces. It allows consumers to transact globally, send remittances and pay merchants without needing to know anything about blockchain.

Merchant adoption is keeping pace, with Stripe’s stablecoin acceptance and upcoming Apple Pay and Google Pay integrations removing final barriers to everyday use.

Platforms like Helio and Decaf let merchants settle in stablecoins through Shopify and other e-commerce channels. These tools are critical in emerging markets where credit card networks are inefficient or nonexistent. Freelancers and gig workers are increasingly using stablecoins to receive direct payments, without currency conversion losses or slow banking delays.

Behind the scenes, processors, like MoonPay, Ramp and Alchemy Pay, manage the complex compliance work, facilitating fiat conversions and KYC verification. This infrastructure is key to making stablecoin usage smooth and compliant at scale.

The Stablecoin-Native Economy Is Emerging

A new financial architecture is forming. In many regions, especially in Latin America and Southeast Asia, stablecoins already outperform local banking services: People hold stablecoins instead of local fiat in a bid to preserve value. For instance, between July 2023 and July 2024, 47% of transactions under $10,000 were conducted using stablecoins, reflecting their importance in everyday transactions and remittances.

The high inflation and devaluation of local currencies mean that users are increasingly parking savings in stablecoins, while businesses are using them for real-time treasury operations and developers are building native stablecoin apps that skip banks altogether.

Solana and Tron collectively process $77 billion in stablecoin transactions by offering speeds and fees traditional finance can’t match. Upstarts, like Codex, even share sequencer fees with stablecoin issuers to build distribution incentives directly into the payment layer.

These chains are optimized for finality, cost and throughput—exactly what stablecoin finance demands.

The revenue-sharing model used by issuers, such as Paxos and Agora, gives stablecoins network effects—fintech apps, payment processors and even traditional banks now have incentives to integrate and distribute them.

What Comes Next?

The next phase of growth will focus on mass adoption and regulatory maturation. Nation-state stablecoins will emerge and enterprises will increasingly hold yield-bearing stablecoins as part of their treasury strategy.

Consumers will be transacting with stablecoins seamlessly—often even without explicit awareness—as financial products increasingly use them as foundational infrastructure rather than fiat. At current adoption rates, the stablecoin market cap is set to exceed $400 billion by next year.

2025 is the U.S.’s make-or-break year for digital finance leadership. With regulatory frameworks taking shape and the technological infrastructure already in place, passage of both the GENIUS Act and STABLE Act would position the U.S. to dictate the next era of global digital payments.

Helium (HNT) Jumps After SEC Dismisses Lawsuit Against Team Behind the Decentralized Wireless Network

A Solana (SOL)-based decentralized wireless network crypto project is skyrocketing after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) dismissed its lawsuit against the protocol.

In a new thread on the social media platform X, the development team behind Helium (HNT) says that the regulatory agency has dropped its lawsuit against the crypto platform, which alleged that they violated securities laws.

According to a press release, Helium developer Nova Labs agreed to pay the SEC $200,000 to settle the accusation without admitting to any wrongdoing.

News of the dismissal caused HNT to rally as it went from a low of $2.62 on April 10th to a peak of $3.03 just a day later. It has since retraced and is trading for $2.96, a 9.9% increase during the last 24 hours.

The SEC, which originally filed the lawsuit in January, had accused Nova Labs of distributing unregistered securities.

“The SEC has agreed to dismiss its unregistered securities claims with prejudice. Helium Hotspots and the distribution of HNT, MOBILE, and IOT through the Helium Network are not securities. It also means that the SEC cannot bring these charges against Helium again.”

In a recent blog post, Helium says the dismissal of the case is a “landmark outcome” for the digital assets industry and DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks) technology, which tokenizes real-world infrastructure.

“This landmark outcome is a pivotal turning point for the Helium community and the entire crypto industry, removing legal uncertainty for DePIN projects that use crypto incentives to build real-world infrastructure.

With the dismissal of the SEC’s unregistered securities claims with prejudice, the outcome establishes that selling hardware and distributing tokens for network growth does not automatically make them securities in the eyes of the SEC.”

This marks another lawsuit dropped by the SEC against crypto giants this year after President Donald Trump took office. Other dissolved cases include ones against the crypto exchanges Kraken and Coinbase, retail trading giant Robinhood, non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace OpenSea, and crypto wallet developer MetaMask.

On-Chain Indicator Suggests Ethereum (ETH) Could Be Undervalued, According to Crypto Analyst

An on-chain indicator suggests that top smart contract protocol Ethereum (ETH) could currently be undervalued, according to a popular crypto analyst.

Trader Ali Martinez tells his 135,100 followers on the social media platform X that ETH’s Entity-Adjusted Dormancy Flow just dropped below one million, suggesting that Ethereum may be in the midst of carving a major cycle bottom.

“This historically indicates a macro bottom zone, meaning ETH might be undervalued and long-term holders are less inclined to sell. It also suggests:

• Sentiment is low
• Capitulation may have occurred
• Smart money might be accumulating”

Entity-Adjusted Dormancy Flow is used “to time market lows and assess whether the bull market remains in relatively normal conditions,” according to the crypto analytics firm Glassnode. The metric, which Glassnode says helps clarify whether an asset is in a bullish or bearish primary trend, measures the ratio of a coin’s market cap and its annualized dormancy value tracked in US dollars.

Martinez also notes that 453,000 Ethereum have been withdrawn from crypto exchanges in the past five days.

Large amounts of ETH flowing out from exchanges can serve as a bullish indicator as deep-pocketed investors accumulate the asset.

The cryptocurrency industry has come a long way in the past decade, but let’s face it – buying crypto for the first time can feel like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube blindfolded.

Despite all the advancements, first-time buyers often face a maze of confusing steps, technical jargon, and frustrating delays. This both discourages potential crypto enthusiasts and results in lost revenue for businesses. Let’s dive into what the ideal buying process should look like and why simplifying it is critical for adoption.

The Challenges of Buying Crypto: Kamal’s Journey

For many first-time crypto buyers, the excitement of joining the world of digital assets often turns into frustration. Let’s consider Kamal, a 25-year-old from Indonesia who’s been hearing about memecoins like Dogecoin and Shiba Inu on TikTok and in chat groups.

Intrigued by their viral success and excited about the hype around them, he sets aside some money to make his first investment. Full of enthusiasm, he’s ready to buy his first token. But instead of a smooth experience, he’s met with challenges at every turn, hitting roadblock after roadblock.

The platform’s interface is cluttered and confusing. Kamal struggles to find where to begin. Once he figures out how to sign up, the next steps remain unclear. But Kamal still intends to purchase, so he selects $PEPE in the search box – and he gets lost in what to choose, with no idea how the offers are graded and what they contain.

Like many others in such a situation, Kamal chooses the first option – he is already disoriented, and he certainly doesn’t want to choose between other options without understanding the difference.

Weirdly enough, it appears that Kamal can’t just buy the coin with the assets he has. He must buy SOL first on another platform to have it in his wallet. But how could he have known about this mechanism? No clear steps, no guidelines.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg of all the hurdles caused by poor onboarding. The KYC process requires users to upload an ID and a selfie, making them wait for hours for approval, unsure if they’ve done everything correctly. On the payment step after the approval, the preferred method might be unavailable. Frustrated, people choose an alternative, only to encounter hidden fees and an unfriendly exchange rate. And by the time our hero is ready to confirm the transaction, he’s already lost confidence. Blockchain confirmation takes longer than expected, and his memecoins don’t appear in his wallet immediately.

This experience highlights the frustrating reality of buying crypto on many platforms today. The lack of transparency, slow processes, and limited options create an exhausting journey for users like Kamal, often leading them to abandon the process altogether.

This story is not unique. Reports reveal that 50% of fiat-to-crypto transactions fail, even after users complete the KYC process. Moreover, transaction abandonment during the purchase flow can reach as high as 90% due to the complexities involved.

The fragmented and cumbersome nature of such systems amplifies user frustration, turning an exciting venture into an ordeal. The barriers to entry are real, and they’re holding back crypto’s mass adoption. For users like Kamal, these barriers often lead to abandoning the process altogether, highlighting the need for simplified, transparent solutions to encourage first-time buyers.

What an Ideal Buying Process Should Look Like

The perfect buying process eliminates unnecessary friction while maintaining security and compliance. To start, onboarding should feel as simple as signing up for a social media account. Automated tools can streamline the verification process and ensure speed without sacrificing security. Users should be guided clearly through each step, removing the confusion often associated with uploading personal documents or completing KYC procedures.

Transparency is another critical factor. Hidden fees and unexpected charges alienate users. Instead, platforms must clearly display all costs upfront, ensuring users know exactly what they’ll pay before confirming a transaction. What is essential to retaining first-time buyers, if not such a level of trust?

An ideal UX should closely resemble Web2 processes like online shopping or digital banking. A familiar interface can help reduce the intimidation factor for newcomers, making the transition into crypto smoother and more accessible.

Finally, speed is non-negotiable. Transactions should be processed in real-time, with clear progress updates throughout the journey. Delays, whether during payment or blockchain confirmations, erode trust and discourage future use.

Creating a great user experience goes beyond attractive visuals or user interface best practices. It involves meeting the specific needs and expectations of users – particularly those who aren’t early adopters and prioritizes ease of use and practical solutions.

Making Crypto Accessible: A Vision for The Future

Kamal’s story mirrors that of millions worldwide. In 2025, interest in crypto is surging, fueled by the rise of the TON ecosystem and platforms like Telegram integrating blockchain features. Yet, the complexity of buying crypto remains a major barrier. Simplifying the process is the #1 priority for crypto projects that aim to onboard the next billion users.

After the first quarter of 2025, the goal is clear: make buying crypto as effortless as sending a text. With advances in technology, platforms can create experiences that match – or exceed – Web2 convenience. Transparent fees, localized payment methods, and intuitive interfaces will be the norm rather than the exception.

Bungie’s slick-looking Marathon shooter arrives on September 23rd

The creators of Halo and Destiny are finally ready to show off their next big project: Marathon. It’s a long-awaited title from Bungie and revives the classic Marathon IP in the form of a PvPvE extraction shooter. After a teaser nearly two years ago, the Sony-owned studio just spent an hour showing off Marathon gameplay and game mechanics and revealed the game will launch on September 23rd on PS5, Xbox Series S / X, and PC, with full cross-play and cross-save. There’s even an alpha test for fans to try out the game later this month, ahead of its full debut this year.

Marathon is set in a sci-fi universe in 2850, in the remains of Tau Ceti IV, which Bungie describes as a lost colony whose inhabitants disappeared without a trace. Rival factions have hired Runners to scavenge for what’s left behind, and anyone who signs up to be a Runner has given up their human form for a biosynthetic shell with unique abilities and stats.

As a Runner, you fight in a crew of up to three players across a variety of zones and points of interest. You can face rival runners in maps of up to 18 players, so up to six teams, in a bid to grab as much loot as possible and get out. While Marathon is designed to be played in crews, with contextual pings and shared objectives, you can also play solo instead of having to form a dedicated three-person team.

In Marathon runs, there will be what Bungie calls security forces, PvE enemies that roam the world. There are also creatures on these planets that are a threat when you’re navigating toward points on a map. You’ll have to choose whether it’s worth engaging with these enemies and risk revealing your location to rival teams or use a strategy of avoiding these threats in this PvPvE environment.

The maps are filled with bold and vibrant artwork and weapons, materials, and equipment that can be scavenged. Before a run, you build a loadout and select the Runner that fits your play style. In the alpha test, which starts on April 23rd, there will be four runners to choose from, including the stealthy Void character that can go invisible much like a Hunter from Destiny 2.

There’s also a Glitch runner that has fast-paced abilities and, like its name implies, can glitch out enemies. If you’re more of a run-and-gun type of player, Locus has a shield ability and looks similar to the slide and shotgun play of a Titan from Destiny 2. The final runner in the alpha test is Blackbird, designed for recon and scanning the area around you. While there are four runners in the alpha test, there will be six to choose from when Marathon launches in September.

During its livestream, Bungie published a nearly 20-minute video of highlights from 40 creators it says it recently invited to try the game.

If you die, you’ll drop your gear. But if you survive, your loot moves with you to future runs so you get more powerful gear and level up. Teammates can also revive you if you fail a mission.

Bungie isn’t putting a limit on team compositions, so that means everyone on a three-person team can select the same runner. There will be end-game challenges, ranked play, seasonal storytelling, community events, and more.

Bungie has even produced an original short cinematic that’s set in the Marathon universe. Written and directed by Alberto Mielgo (Love, Death, and Robots), this nearly nine-minute short will have Bungie fans poring over it for days to discover every little detail about the Marathon universe.

While Marathon is very slick-looking, there’s a lot riding on this game. It’s entering a crowded market of shooters and live-service games that have tried and failed to break through in recent years. Concord, also from a PlayStation studio, was the biggest example of a shooter that failed to take off recently, forcing Sony to take the game offline less than a month after launch and eventually shut down the studio behind it.

Spectre Divide, a Valorant-like free-to-play shooter, also shut down just months after its launch, with the developer behind the ambitious shooter shutting down, too. These high-profile failures add to the pressure that Marathon is already under on the back of Bungie’s success with Halo and Destiny and Sony’s ambitious live-service game effort that it has been scaling back recently.

The Marathon alpha test will be an opportunity for Bungie to show the world exactly how its latest game will stand out from the competition, and whether it does enough to tempt people away from hero shooters or Call of Duty and Fortnite into the extraction shooter genre that Escape from Tarkov has popularized.

The big question left for Bungie to answer is how much Marathon will cost. It’s not a free-to-play game, but the studio isn’t ready to talk about exact pricing just yet. Destiny 2 is technically free-to-play with an optional season pass, but a lot of additional content requires payment for access to raids, dungeons, and even some of the story content. It’s been a confusing model for new players over the years, so I’m hoping Bungie lands on a clear pricing structure for Marathon.

Bitcoin Massively Outperforming S&P 500 Amid Risk-Asset Panic, Says Analyst Jamie Coutts – Here’s His Outlook

Real Vision’s chief crypto analyst, Jamie Coutts, is highlighting the outperformance of Bitcoin (BTC) amid a correction experienced by stocks and crypto assets.

Coutts says that even though Bitcoin has traditionally been more volatile than stocks, it has recently witnessed a relatively lower level of correction than would be expected based on its historical levels of price swings.

“Folks don’t understand what is happening with Bitcoin during this risk-asset panic. BTC with 2.5x the volatility of the S&P 500 experienced a drawdown of 28% vs. the S&P 500’s 19%. That is a massive OUTPERFORMANCE.

Perhaps it’s not just BTC’s strength, but a reflection of the increasing fragility of the fiat system and its asset markets – complex systems inherently trend toward entropy/chaos. Bitcoin is mirroring this unraveling.”

Going forward, Coutts says that Bitcoin will grow in importance as two of its use cases gain prominence across the globe.

“What is happening right now is epic. Things are breaking. The fiat fractional reserve credit-based system’s fragility is on full display, yet again. Look through the next couple of days and understand Bitcoin’s ascendancy as a global settlement layer and collateral asset is accelerating. Fast.

Before it was the plebs who understood this, this time it will be nation states.”

That’s a massive shift, and it’s already having an impact on XRP, which has just crossed the crucial $2 mark.

But here’s the burning question—could $2.25 be the next milestone?

Ripple and BCG Predict Explosive Tokenisation Growth

The Ripple-BCG report predicts that the tokenisation of real-world assets will grow from $0.6 trillion in 2025 to $18.9 trillion by 2033.

The report asserts that tokenisation will revamp the entire financial system of the world. It explains how it will work miracles in the areas of fractional ownership, instant transfer and regulatory compliance.

The report also highlights XRP’s potential to become a major player in this new tokenised financial environment. As one of the top cryptocurrencies by market value, XRP is already showing strong market performance. Over the past year, XRP has risen by an impressive 238.2%.

XRP Price Analysis

At the beginning of 2025, XRP was trading at $2.08. On January 16, it reached an all-time high of $3.399. Between January 1 and 17, the price grew by about 57.94%. However, since January 18, XRP has been in decline, falling by around 37.36%.

The market has been moving within a descending trendline since mid-January, holding back further upward movement.

April Volatility: Highs, Lows, and Rebounds

On April 1, XRP was priced near $2.09. It jumped to $2.2322 on April 2 but dropped by the end of the day to $2.0229. Between April 3 and 5, it managed a 5.92% rebound, but this was followed by a 16.16% correction from April 6 to 8.

There was strong buying pressure on April 9, but it wasn’t enough to recover fully from the earlier dip.

Currently, XRP stands at $2.06, holding just above the important $2 support level. Over the past 24 hours, the price has climbed 1.7%.

So, Is Momentum Building?

XRP’s Relative Strength Index (RSI) on the daily chart has risen to 46.12, after hitting a low of 32.12 on April 8. This suggests that buying interest is growing and momentum may be shifting in favor of the bulls.

The 200-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA), currently at $1.9506, is acting as a strong support level. Still, for a lasting upward trend to begin, XRP needs to break above the descending trendline that has capped its rallies since January.

XRP Liquidation and Derivatives Data Analysis

Market data shows that short liquidations, worth $336,810, are significantly higher than long liquidations at $241,800. This indicates that traders betting against XRP are being forced out of their positions.

At the same time, open interest in XRP derivatives has increased by 1.4% to $3.08 billion, suggesting that more capital is entering the market.

BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes believes one catalyst could suddenly send Bitcoin (BTC) to new all-time highs amid US President Donald Trump’s tariff policies.

Hayes tells his 679,700 followers on the social media platform X that the sudden selling-off of US treasuries and rising 10-year bond yields is likely to result in the printing of more money, which has ignited massive Bitcoin rallies in the past.

“It’s on like Donkey Kong. We will be getting more policy responses this weekend if this keeps up. We are about to enter UP ONLY mode for BTC.”

Hayes also believes that the weakening of China’s yuan due to central bank money printing may cause investors to move their wealth into Bitcoin as a hedge.

“No deal. PBOC (People’s Bank of China) continues a very gradual yuan weakening. Sh*t ’bout to get spicy. Luckily, BTC loves money printing and associated CNY (Chinese yuan) weakness.”

Lastly, Hayes says that banks will likely be granted a Supplementary Leverage Ratio (SLR) exemption being advocated for by JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon. The exemption would allow banks to hold more Treasuries without increasing required capital reserves, giving banks more liquidity to lend.

“What Jamie Dimon wants, Jamie Dimon gets. SLR exemption is what we need to send BTC orbital.”

Bitcoin is trading for $83,343 at time of writing, up 4.9% in the last 24 hours.

BeInCrypto spoke with Erwin Voloder, Head of Policy of the European Blockchain Association, to discuss how Musk blurred the lines between parody and promotion, leading people to assign real-world value to a meme and generating ethical concerns along the way.

The Genesis of Dogecoin

Toward the end of 2013, software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer joined forces to create Dogecoin, the first meme coin in crypto history. Its primary purpose was to serve as a lighthearted parody of the chaotic crypto hype.

Born from the “Doge” internet meme, which prominently featured a Shiba Inu, the meme coin was intended as a humorous jab at the often illogical nature of crypto speculation.

Despite its satirical origins, Dogecoin quickly gained a dedicated online following—so much so that even Tesla CEO Elon Musk became drawn to it.

Today, he’s considered a key figure in the community, and Dogecoin, contrary to its initial philosophy, has become a speculative asset.

“Musk’s involvement transformed Dogecoin from a satirical internet token into a speculative asset class by bestowing it with perceived legitimacy and entertainment value. His tweets and appearances turned Dogecoin into a cultural product rather than a financial one—a kind of performance art with real economic consequences. The irony is that a coin created to mock irrational investing became the poster child of irrational investing,” Voloder told BeInCrypto.

In addition to symbolic endorsements, Musk has exerted concrete influence. A prime example is Tesla’s early 2022 decision to accept Dogecoin for select merchandise, significantly strengthening its position and indicating its practical potential.

Musk also didn’t hesitate to use social media to convey his love for Dogecoin.

How Did Musk’s Tweets Impact Dogecoin’s Market?

Throughout the years, Elon Musk, a prolific Twitter user even before he bought the platform, has shared numerous posts referencing Dogecoin. Each of these tweets has substantially impacted the meme coin’s visibility and price performance.

When Musk referred to Dogecoin in an April 2019 tweet as his favorite cryptocurrency, the market went berserk. In two days, the coin’s price went from $0.002 on April 1 to as high as $0.004.

Two years later, Musk’s X posts declaring “Dogecoin is the people’s crypto” triggered an overnight trading volume surge of over 50%.

Soon enough, retail investors started to follow Musk’s endorsements mindlessly. But it wasn’t all butterflies and roses. Musks’s unpredictable pronouncements also came with extreme volatility.

“Musk blurred the line between parody and promotion, which led people to assign real-world value to a meme. Without him, it may have remained a niche internet joke but with him, it became a symbol of speculative absurdity,” Voloder said.

When Musk called Dogecoin ‘a hustle’ on Saturday Night Live in May 2021, the coin lost more than a third of its price in a few hours.

“Dogecoin has no clear roadmap, no underlying yield or utility, and limited development activity, meaning its valuation is especially sentiment-driven. In such an environment, a single individual’s actions can drive or destroy market perception, particularly when that individual is one of the world’s most followed and wealthiest people,” he added.

Then, in January 2025, President Trump appointed Musk as the head of a newly created agency tasked with cutting federal spending.

Musk called it the Department of Government Efficiency, or D.O.G.E. for short. The name was intentional, and the internet broke accordingly.

D.O.G.E. and the Price Plunge: What’s the Correlation?

President Trump launched the D.O.G.E. department by executive order on his first day on the job. After D.O.G.E. launched its official government website, Dogecoin’s price surged by 13% in 15 minutes, breaking its previous short-term downtrend.

Yet, since the official establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE’s price has been freefalling. While valued at $0.36 on January 20, its price has since fallen to $0.15 today.

Findings from a recent Finbold report have also revealed that Musk might now be having the opposite effect on Dogecoin’s value and sentiment.

According to the data, the number of Dogecoin millionaire addresses has plunged by over 41% between January 21 and March 31. In just over two months, the cryptocurrency has decreased by 964 addresses.

Notably, the report indicated a massive proportional decline in the number of the wealthiest Dogecoin addresses. The count of addresses holding $1 million to $9.99 million decreased by 40.21% in Q1 2025.

Even more significantly, the number of addresses holding over $10 million plummeted by 47%, from 400 to 212.

In short, Dogecoin whales are dumping the token.

“Musk’s influence remains a key variable in Dogecoin’s valuation, and the timing of the drop in high-value addresses closely aligns with his D.O.G.E. announcement, suggesting a correlation. However, attributing the entire reversal to Musk overlooks broader macro factors like rising interest rates, tighter crypto regulation, and waning retail enthusiasm post-2021,” Voloder explained.

Despite the difficulty of assessing the precise impact of Elon Musk’s D.O.G.E. leadership on Dogecoin’s performance, his significant influence on the cryptocurrency has become evident.

The ethical considerations accompanying Musk’s influence have also become difficult to ignore.

The Ethical Concerns of a Billionaire’s Influence

According to Voloder, the Dogecoin case illustrates the perils of parasocial investing, a behavior in which people mistakenly assign credibility to famous personalities based on their celebrity status or charisma.

It further shows the damaging effects of uncritical reliance on endorsements, potentially leading to substantial financial losses for retail investors.

The ethics of a billionaire influencing a volatile market like cryptocurrency also present significant complexities.

“On one hand, Musk has the right to express personal views and participate in public discourse, including around assets like Dogecoin. On the other, his outsized influence means that his commentary can trigger real financial harm or euphoria in retail investors who often lack access to sophisticated risk models. Ethically, when you wield that kind of influence, there’s a strong argument for assuming a higher standard of responsibility—especially in a market with minimal guardrails,” Voloder told BeInCrypto.

Given the unregulated nature of the cryptocurrency industry, it’s currently challenging to pinpoint the degree to which Musk’s actions can be held responsible.

Does Musk’s Influence Constitute Market Manipulation?

Although presented as personal opinions, Musk’s tweets demonstrably affect Dogecoin’s price, creating a legal gray area regarding potential market manipulation under US securities and commodities laws.

“Under SEC rules, market manipulation involves intentional conduct designed to deceive or defraud investors by controlling or artificially affecting market prices. While Dogecoin is not officially deemed a security, and thus outside the SEC’s traditional remit, the CFTC could still scrutinize it under its anti-manipulation powers for commodities,” Voloder explained.

The Dogecoin case isn’t the first time a high-profile figure has influenced markets in ways that were manipulative, though not explicitly illegal.

Voloder highlighted two instances at different points in the 20th century: when prominent banker JP Morgan steered markets during the panic of 1907 and investor George Soros broke the Bank of England in 1992.

Though their maneuvers were technically legal, they managed to sway market outcomes. However, this was the 20th century, and their impact was proportionally much smaller.

“The difference today is that social media provides instantaneous reach to millions of investors, amplifying the potential impact. So even if Musk’s tweets are framed as personal musings, their predictable effect on price can be seen as a form of market signaling—intentional or not,” Voloder told BeInCrypto.

In fact, the SEC and legal experts are already debating Elon Musk’s potential influence on Dogecoin’s financial market activities.

A $258 Billion Lawsuit

Elon Musk currently faces a $258 billion class action lawsuit for running a Dogecoin pyramid scheme.

The lawsuit, filed in June 2022, claims that Musk intentionally promoted Dogecoin through his tweets, public appearances, and media interactions, creating hype and driving up demand.

According to the plaintiffs, this artificial inflation of Dogecoin’s price allowed Musk and his companies to profit while leaving other investors with substantial losses when the price inevitably declined.

Due to the SEC’s unclear legal classification of cryptocurrencies like Dogecoin, Voloder anticipates a difficult path for these claims in court.

Nevertheless, the lawsuit indicates increased attention to market manipulation by influential figures.

“Still, the lawsuit signals increased legal pressure to define where promotional enthusiasm ends and financial misconduct begins. If regulators or courts decide Musk knowingly manipulated the market or misled investors, he could face civil penalties or be forced into settlements. The SEC’s earlier scrutiny of Musk’s Tesla tweets, resulting in a consent decree, shows that regulators are willing to act when market-moving speech crosses certain lines,” Voloder explained.

Musk’s influence on Dogecoin continues unabated, and the long-term effects on the Dogecoin community remain a subject of debate.

Will Dogecoin’s Community Resilience Endure?

The rapid 40% decrease in Dogecoin whale addresses within two months has raised questions about the meme coin’s future strength and resilience.

However, DOGE’s fundamental strength still remains intact – it’s community.

“While the initial hype has faded, Dogecoin still retains a loyal base of enthusiasts, many of whom appreciate its meme-driven culture, low transaction fees, and iconic branding. But the big speculative crowd that initially drove its [all-time high] has largely left the field in absence of sustained bullish narratives or meaningful tech upgrades,” Voloder concluded.

In the future, traders will be watching to see if Dogecoin’s ‘cult following’ eventually dwindles or if a strong community will sustain the ‘OG meme coin’.

The analyst pseudonymously known as Credible Crypto tells his 466,900 followers on the social media platform X that it is within the realm of possibility for Curve DAO (CRV) to witness an over 400% rally from current levels.

Credible says he sees CRV following in the footsteps of the payments altcoin XRP (XRP) when it witnessed a massive price rise in late Q4.

“This is actually quite feasible because once we clear $0.60-$0.80, the next major resistance on CRV is at $2-$3.

We already saw how quickly XRP went from $0.50 to $3+ [last] year when many said it wasn’t possible and/or were laughing at the idea.

Have been hearing the same with regards to CRV for months now from those who haven’t spent any time actually understanding the protocol, and I’m expecting a similar outcome.”

CRV is trading at $0.598 at time of writing.

Turning to XRP, CredibleCrypto says the “most bullish scenario” for the fourth-largest crypto asset could materialize if XRP manages to rise above a major resistance level.

“If we can break back above this point of breakdown [at around $2.20] impulsively, it would be a fantastic sign.”
